Frequently Asked Questions

Are your products tested on animals? No way! None of the Glamour Addict products are tested on animals.

Are makeup brushes really necessary? Brushes are essential to proper makeup application. Can you imagine a painter creating a masterpiece without paint brushes? The shorter the bristles, the more makeup the brush deposits on the skin. Longer bristles will give you a fairly sheer wash of color. Affordable brushes can be found at your local drug store or department store.

What are some other makeup tools? Your fingers are a great tool to add any makeup product. Just be sure to wash your hands prior to application. Other necessary tools are sponges, cotton swabs and powders puffs.

What should I put on my face prior to a makeup application? You should always apply a sunscreen to your face everyday, even if it is cloudy outside. The best way to fight wrinkles and aging is to prevent them and wear sunscreen! Applying a moisturizer or a face primer is also a great idea. This will act as a barrier between your face and the makeup. You MUST be sure that your sunscreen and moisturizer completely absorbs prior to makeup application or else your makeup will get cakey.

How do I apply mineral makeup? Mineral makeup is MUCH different than traditional makeup. You do not need a lot of makeup to get the application that you need. Sometimes all that you need to do is barely touch the minerals with your brush for a whole face application. First, sprinkle a small amount of loose foundation into your foundation lid. Take your brush and lightly swirl it into the color. Now tap, tap, tap your brush almost until you almost see no pigment on the brush. Apply to your face using upward, circular strokes. Lightly build up the color using the same application technique if you need more coverage. If you use too much color to start, you will NOT like the color application. The color will be too much and will look a little cakey. Start with little coverage and slowly build up the color. Apply your blush color the same way, but just on the apple of your cheeks. If you have trouble with a brush application, you can always mix your mineral powder with your favorite moisturizer to make it a liquid foundation. The more color you add to the moisturizer, the more pigmented it will be. Always start with a little and build up. Remember, mineral makeup is highly pigmented and a little goes a long way!

How can I make my mineral eyeshadow darker?  If you put on mineral eyeshadow dry with a brush, the color will be fairly sheer. If you take a small shadow brush, dampen it with a little water and tap it in your color, the color will be much more pigmented when applied. All the colors can be layered to make the color lighter or darker. You can also experiment with the colors, mix and match them together to make your own colors. That is the fun part!

Do your products contain sunscreen?  Two of the main ingredients found in sunscreen are Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. These are naturally occurring minerals that effectively blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Glamour Addict products have a very high SPF due to the amount of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. Due to FDA regulations, products must undergo expensive laboratory testing in order to be able to list an actual level of SPF. At this time, the level of SPF has not been determined.

Why are Glamour Addict mineral products better than the “other brands” of mineral makeup?  Glamour Addict mineral products do not contain the filler Bismuth Oxychloride. Although this is a regular component to traditional cosmetics, this is not an additive you want added to a product that is a pure mineral makeup. Some larger companies add Bismuth Oxychloride as a filler that will also give the product a smoother texture. People who have had problems wearing traditional cosmetics may have some kind of reaction to the Bismuth Oxychloride in the product. This ingredient can cause itchiness, breakouts and skin irritation to people who are sensitive to it. Mineral Glamour products do NOT contain any chemicals, artificial fragrances or preservatives.

Does the Classic Glamour line contain Bismuth Oxychloride? Some of the Classic Glamour products do contain Bismuth Oxychloride as this has been a regular additive to traditional cosmetics for years.

What are some of the ingredients in mineral makeup?
Titanium Dioxide is a natural sunblock and is widely used as a white pigment in mineral cosmetics. It has UV light intercepting properties that also creates a natural finish for makeup products.
Zinc Oxide is a natural sunscreen against UVA and UVB rays. It is used to calm skin problems such as rosacea.

Kaolin Clay is also known as “china clay”. Oily skin loves kaolin clay is great for absorbing oil.
Mica powder is purified and crushed mica minerals. It is available is a variety of colors and gives the powders that shimmer effect.

Serecite Mica is added for adhesion and shine. This powder adds medium adhesion and a youthful medium shine that helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Iron Oxides are used to color the makeup.

Why does Glamour Addict carry both a mineral makeup line and traditional makeup line?Mineral makeup is a great option for people who have sensitive skin or trouble wearing traditional makeup. I love to mix and match my makeup products. There is a lot of diversity in traditional makeup products. With two different makeup lines, there are more options and diversity for you to choose from.

I have been dreaming of a certain color, can you make it for me?  I sure will try! If there is color you have always had your heart set on and cannot find it anywhere, let me know. I will do my best to make the color or have it made for you.

How do I determine the best foundation color?  The golden rule is to try to match your powder or foundation to the skin color around your neck. The best way to find your match, is to order several color sample foundations. Apply the color to a clean face starting at your cheek and go down your neck. Now go outside with a mirror and look for the color that disappears. The color that disappears into your skin is your color match. Be sure to look at the color in natural light. I often apply my makeup near a window to utilize natural light.

How do I determine my skin tone?  Color is grouped into two categories; warm and cool. Warm tones are those consistent with the sunshine, such as yellow, orange, peaches and browns. Cool tones have a blue undertone and are consistent with whites, mauves, lilac, blues and eggplant. What colors look best on you? Certain backgrounds such as Italian, Hispanic, Asian or African-American are warm. Those with brown or green eyes, tend to be warm. Those with cool undertones tend to naturally have pale skin and light eyes, think snow white. Color is also made up of 15 depth levels with 1 being very pale to 15 being very dark.

What is the most important part of applying makeup?  HAVE FUN! Take some time to experiment with application and different colors, you might surprise yourself!

What are feather fascinators and why are they so expensive?  I discovered fascinators while in Europe and fell in love with them! Ladies wear these fabulous hair accessories to horse races, balls and other events. I have worn mine to my wedding rehearsal dinner, a bridal shower and other events. They are great to wear to a prom, wedding or party. Each one is hand crafted and original. I decided to try and learn the craft to make my own. They are constructed with a natural material called sinamay and feathers. The sinamay is cut and the edges are folded by hand to make the shape. The fascinator is then designed and put together by hand. The fascinator is attached to a plastic comb or clip. Each one takes about 8 hours to construct. The materials are difficult to find and are imported from Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe. These will be stocked on a limited basis as materials are obtained and time is available to design each one. The fascinators are very delicate and must be handled with care. These are reserved for the daring and ultra glamorous.
